PRC's Programs
The Parent Resource Center team members know that everyone has the potential to strengthen their skills and without placing blame, we act as guides for the family, building on the strengths of the parents to transform their own lives and the lives of their children, through strength based teaching we help parents to identify and let go of negative and self defeating thinking, and expand upon their knowledge in a safe and nurturing environment. At PRC we believe that parent education and support play a crucial part in the prevention of family violence. We offer 3 levels of support to families in York County to empower parents.
Level 1 Information/Referral and Resource:
We offer resources and information to families and professionals alike via telephone and or email correspondence. Staying connected with the community and other service providers is crucial to our success and we refer hundreds of calls from families to appropriate agencies per year.
Level 2 Parenting Classes:
Practical Parenting Series: 6:30-9:00 pm- This series creates an opportunity for parents to enhance their parenting skills. During this series, a Mom/Parent Educator from the PRC team leads discussions and offers tools for effective parenting, including but not limited to: building self-esteem, communication skills, positive discipline, and stress management techniques for today's parent. Classes are open to all parents, including foster, single, step, adoptive and non-traditional parents.
Just For Dads: 6:30-8:30 pm- During this series, Bobby Dion, a Father/Parent Educator from the PRC team leads discussions with Dads on the following topics: What kind of Father do you want to be? Are you speaking the same language as your children? Esteem-building, positive discipline, and stress management techniques for today's Dad are also shared!
Just for Dads * a Strong Fathers Network supported program- No fee~ We offer our 2 parenting classes in Biddeford and Springvale to allow a central location for parents throughout York County.
Level 3 Empowering Parent Programs:
One on One Parent Education:
Private parent education is offered to parents whether in home or site based. This service is individualized and strength based with specific parents needs in mind most families in this program are referred to us by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Families are either working to keep their family in tact or are working to reunify with their children. This service is fee based and is $37.50 per hour~
Family Access Program:
We offer children and their parent a safe, pleasant, neutral environment to meet when access has been disrupted due to family conflict. Supervised visitation and monitored transfers are available. Experienced monitors record the party’s transactions and provide for the safety and well being of everyone involved. Parents are referred by the Family Court system and the order will determine which parent is responsible for payment. This is a per hour fee based service. There is a $100 intake fee per family for Family Access services and each parent must attend an intake meeting prior to visitation being scheduled with children.
